We would like to thank our local hosts that let us use their stages and equipment, our wonderful volunteers (directors, actors, technicians, and student volunteers), and all the playwrights who have generously contributed their works to our festivals and continue to do so.

Please email us if you would like to direct a play, join our distribution email list, or have any questions!

Watermelon Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to support the theater arts in the local community, promote original works written by both students and adults, and provide a nurturing and educational environment for the development of theatrical and technical skills.

Our main production is the Watermelon One-Act Festival (WOAF), a two-day competition of original one-act plays that is hosted by St. Mary's College of Maryland in the first weekend of June.

Regrettably, due to growing concerns about Covid-19 (a.k.a., SARS-CoV-2, coronavirus) and the uncertainty of the near future, we have decided to cancel WOAF 2020. Thanks to all that submitted scripts for this year.  We hope that you will consider resubmitting for WOAF 2021. Our submission deadline is always Valentine's Day and we begin accepting submissions on January 1, 2021.

  • A warm thank you to Amy Bernstein, our regional Representative from the Dramatists Guild of America, for her generous contribution of her time during our festival finals!  We encourage everyone to visit The Dramatists Guild's website and learn about this fabulous organization!
  • Visit PlaySubmissionsHelper.com/blog for a list of tons of contests and other play submission opportunities with deadlines coming up this month.
  • With all else being equal, preference will be given to submissions with committed directors and a total run time 30 minutes or less.
